To the Campus Community, I am heartbroken to share with our entire campus community the terribly sad news that one of our students, Jase Barrack, class of 2020, sustained a serious injury off campus earlier this week. His family is currently at his side at Cayuga Medical Center, and they have made the very difficult decision to remove life support. They have let us know that they are seeking to donate his organs so that others may be offered the gift of life. Jase is majoring in athletic training in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. He came to Ithaca College from Allendale, New Jersey, where he graduated in 2016 from Northern Highlands Regional High School. An outstanding student and student-athlete, Jase has a tremendous passion for soccer—playing goalie on his high school team and our IC club soccer team, and serving on the staff of the Madigan Soccer Academy summer camp. At Ithaca College, he has served as the athletic trainer for the women’s softball team. I want to extend my heartfelt sympathies to Jase’s family, friends, classmates, teammates, professors, and all who are affected by this tragedy, which comes at a time when our campus community is collectively celebrating the end of the academic year. I ask that we please pause to keep Jase and his loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, and to please continue to look out for one another. A campus gathering will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday in Muller Chapel for those who wish to come together in shared grief and to provide mutual support. As always, support services for students are available through the Ithaca College Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) by calling 607-274-3136. Students needing immediate assistance should contact the Office of Public Safety at 607-274-3333 or the on-duty residential life staff. Faculty and staff can access the counseling services of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) by calling 1-800-327-2255. Sincerely, Shirley M. Collado |
