CMD professor & student team present research at San Diego Comic Con 2019Contributed by Edward Schneider on 07/24/19 Associate Professor Dr. Edd Schneider and Julia Salvatore ('22) presented their research about depictions of traumatic brain injury in comic books at this years Comic-Con International, informally known as the San Diego Comic Con. Dr. Edd Schneider, from the Park School's Communication Management & Design department, and Julia Salvatore ('22) researched how head injury was shown and treated in different eras of comic books. Their presentation was titled "Heroism and Head Injury: Comic Books and Attitudes Towards TBI." Julia is a double major in CMD and Psychology. The interdisciplinary study showcased how some medically dangerous beliefs about traumatic brain injury have been propagated through the art form.
