Posted on behalf of Paula E.F. Younger, executive director for government and community relations. Join the whole community in supporting the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC). The Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) is hosting a community fundraising event on September 7 and 8 called the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament. The tournament will benefit GIAC, which serves children and teens in the downtown neighborhoods, as well as the greater Ithaca area, by providing multicultural, educational and recreational programs focused on social and individual development. The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament is a family fun festival designed for basketball enthusiasts of all abilities who love the fun of the driveway game. The three on three games will take place on 25 basketball courts in the Ithaca High School parking lot, from 8 a.m. until sundown. On Saturday starting at 11 a.m., GIAC will also hold its Festival of Nations, celebrating the many cultures from around the globe that are present in the local Ithaca community. The festival will include food, music, performers, and other activities. The event is free and open to the public. This is Ithaca's first Gus Macker event, but not the last. GIAC plans to continue the tournament annually as a community celebration and a fundraiser to ensure great recreational programming for local youth. Check out the locally-produced video trailer for the tournament! Or visit the Gus Macker website for more information.
