Information Technology is pleased to announce the launch of eduroam (educational roaming), a new wireless service which will be available in academic and administrative buildings beginning August 21st.

What is eduroam?

eduroam is a secure wireless service used at over 650 higher education institutions in the US, and many more internationally. The service allows users to access the secure wireless network of other institutions while using the credentials of their 'home' institution. For example, while visiting Cornell, an Ithaca College student, faculty or staff member can connect to the eduroam wireless network there using their Ithaca College email address as the username, along with their Netpass password. Likewise, someone from Cornell can visit IC and use their CU credentials to access the Ithaca College eduroam wireless network here.

What are the benefits of eduroam? 

eduroam eliminates the need for visitors to or from eduroam schools to obtain temporary wireless credentials or use unsecure guest networks. This helps to facilitate simple and secure wireless access for the ever-growing movement of students and researchers between institutions and countries.

Note that IC community members should continue to use the IthacaCollege secure wireless network while on campus (or Apogee My-ResNet in the residence halls). eduroam is intended to be used by visitors to and from eduroam institutions.
