Café con IDEAS

Contributed by RahK Lash on 09/15/19

Café con IDEAS provides a platform for student-artists to develop and project their voice in a 50-minute set while sharing personal narratives rooted in social change, identity and/or anti-oppression. Ranging from comedy, spoken word, dance and performance, song, and speed art, each session is designed to engage the audience through creative arts and empower individuals to look inward and consider their own responsibility to social change.

  • (September 18) “Can You be my Ally?” by Moyo Odulaja. Is it truly possible for white people to comfortably speak up and with people of color? How can we destroy the white saviorship complex? Moyo will dissect what she believes it means to genuinely be an ally.
  • (October 9) “50 Shades of Black” by Louis Bavaro. Spoken-word, Improv, Tea-time, vocalises, and a whole lotta organized chaos about Identity and Individualism.
  • (November 13) “When the Brass Goes Unpolished” by Kobe Guilford. Your performance can only be so good as how well you take care of your instrument(s) (literally and metaphorically speaking). Kobe will narrate stories about his experiences with music and the life lessons learned.

Each set is 7pm-9pm in Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center (2nd Floor). Refreshments will be served.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Center for IDEAS at ideas@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-7777. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
