Join the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life today at 4pm in the Muller Chapel for a screening of the film “Dust-Flower-Flame”, a documentary film about the life of Tahirih Qorratol-eyn, a woman of letters, the effect of whose presence on women’s equality movement in the 19th century during the reign of Qajar has continued up until today.

The film will be followed by a discussion on the Life and Legacy of Ṭáhirih led by Omid Ghaemmaghami. Ghaemmaghami is Associate Professor of Arabic and Near Eastern Studies and Director of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) studies program at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton. He is the author of numerous studies on aspects of Shīʿī Islam and the Bábí-Bahá’í Faith, and is currently editing a series of articles dedicated to advancing research on the life, writings, and legacy of Ṭáhirih.

The following are translated verses from poems written by Ṭáhirih:

The search for truth shall drive out ignorance
Equality shall strike the despots low
Let warring ways be banished from the world
Let justice everywhere its carpet throw
May friendship ancient hatreds reconcile
May love grow from the seed of love we sow!
