Tompkins County Public Library Community Read Discussion: Intersectionality - Visibility, Representation, ReflectionContributed by Luca Maurer on 09/30/19 On October 3rd at 6 pm, the Tompkins County Library will host a discussion facilitated by LGBT Center director Luca Maurer, in the BorgWarner Room as part of the library's community read initiative. Memoirs like The Prince of Los Cocuyos can act as both mirrors and windows for us to see representations of ourselves, as well as to consider many outlooks and perspectives. As National Coming Out Day approaches during this 50th anniversary year of the Stonewall Riots, participate in an exploration of books with multidimensional, nuanced characters who are more than only their sexual identities. We'll discuss ways we tell our own stories, and the power of books and media to contribute to our making meaning of our families, communities and identities. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Luca Maurer at lmaurer@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-7394. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
