International Club Presents: Breaking Stereotypes on International Students (SLI)Contributed by Selam Kebede on 10/29/19 For some students, coming to a university means driving/flying a few hours away from home. For others, choosing Ithaca College meant…. …… traveling thousands of kilometers to live in a foreign and challenging environment. Coming to a completely different country where you only know a handful of people or even nobody for the purpose of gaining an education is frightening and amazing. At the same time, international students are victims of stereotypes such as, not being proficient in English, asking African Students if they live in the jungle, saying Asian students are good at Math…. Join IC International Club as a panel of current international students share their stories, and explore some of the stereotypes about international students in the US today. There will be time for open Q&A from the panelists. Wednesday, October 30th at 7pm Textor 101 Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact the International Club at icic@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
