It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing on September 25 of John D. Stanton, retired Registrar at Ithaca College, following a long illness. John retired in 2001 after 27 years of service to IC. He was always good natured, collaborative, and was a respected member of the college community. He led the implementation of computer use in the Office of the Registrar, and the first online registration and degree audits done using computer software. His staff always referred to him as Mr. Stanton, even though he was fine with being called John; it was just a level of respect that his staff had for him. He also contributed to the local community as a baseball coach and umpire for games. Now and then, the staff would see “grass research” on his calendar and they knew he was going to take a couple of well-deserved hours away to play golf.
We extend our sympathies to his wife, Joy, who was also a longtime IC employee, and their entire family. A memorial service will be held on Cayuga Lake (location TBA) in Ithaca, NY, on November 9th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778, or online via https://web.cshospice.org/foundation/giving.
