Patricia Zimmermann (Screen Studies) Presents Southern/Southwestern Premiere of We Tell: Fifty Years of Participatory Community Mediaat Rice University in HoustonContributed by Karen Armstrong on 10/16/19 Patricia Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies and Codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, presented We Tell: Fifty Years of Participatory Community Media at Rice Cinema at Rice University in Houston, Texas with cocurator Louis Massiah of Scribe Video on October 4 and 5, 2019. These screenings were the Southern/Southwestern premiere of We Tell. Rice Cinema showed all six programs of We Tellacross three days, with presentations and post-screening discussions by Zimmermann and Massiah. We Tell: Fifty Years of Participatory Community Mediais a national traveling exhibition featuring 41 separate media projects, 36 different production entities including nonprofit community organizations and cultural centers, and works from 19 states and Puerto Rico. The exhibition was programmed by Louis Massiah, filmmaker and Executive Director of Scribe Video Center, and Patricia R. Zimmermann, film/video/new media historian and theorist and Professor of Screen Studies at Ithaca College. Archival research for the exhibition was contributed by The XFR Collective, an organization of media archivists that partners with artists, activists, individuals, and groups to lower the barriers to preserving at risk audiovisual media. |
