Exhibit Highlighting LGBTQ+ People of Faith in Muller ChapelContributed by Hierald Osorto on 11/06/19 For the month of November Muller Chapel will be displaying the Shower of Stoles Exhibit. The Shower of Stoles Project, on loan from the National LGBTQ Task Force, is a collection of over 1,000 liturgical stoles and other sacred items representing the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people of faith. This collection celebrates the gifts of LGBT persons who serve as leaders in their religious traditions in countless ways, while also lifting up those who have been excluded from service because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The vast majority of stoles were contributed by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people themselves. Some have been sent by family or friends to honor a LGBT loved one. About one third of all the stoles are donated anonymously; in fact over three-quarters of the stoles donated specifically by clergy and other full-time religious leaders are done so anonymously. Throughout this month we invite you to visit the chapel and read at least one of the stories represented by the stoles on display. We hope you learn from and are inspired by these stories of perseverance, resilience, courage, and grace. Co-sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and the Center for LGBT Education Outreach and Services. This exhibit will be on display from November 6 to December 2, 2019 Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Hierald Osorto at hosorto@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
