Patricia Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies and Codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, delivered two invited presentations in Buffalo, New York on October 23 and 24, 2019.

She presented the program “Environments of Race and Place” at Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center.  The program is one of six programs of the national touring exhibition she cocurated with Louis Massiah entitled We Tell:  Fifty Years of Participatory Community Media.

The exhibition chronicles the hidden histories of community media made by subjects for use in their own communities to challenge power relations. The exhibition is supported by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Ford Foundation.

Zimmermann also delivered a lecture and presentation at Buffalo State University entitled “Thinking about Documentary, Place, and Politics: The Case of Upstate New York,” which derived from her new book, Documentary Across Platforms: Reverse Engineering Media, Place, and Politics (Indiana, 2019).
