Applications Sought for Assistant Director of the Honors ProgramContributed by Jeane Copenhaver-Johnson on 11/27/19 The Honors Program is pleased to announce an opening for the Assistant Director of the Ithaca College Honors Program. The appointment is anticipated to begin January 2020 and last until May 2022, and we are currently welcoming applications for this collaborative leadership opportunity. The program offers curricular and co-curricular opportunities to students enrolled as members of the Ithaca College Honors Program, fostering a collaborative and intellectually exciting community of faculty, staff, and students. We seek a full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the Assistant Director of the Ithaca College Honors Program. Responsibilities include collaborating with the offices that coordinate admissions and marketing to carry out the recruitment and admission processes, screening applications, representing the program at admissions events, collaborating with the Director to administer student assessment, assisting the Director in recruiting and preparing faculty for the program, and working collaboratively with the Director and Steering Committee to help the program achieve its mission and goals for students. The Assistant Director will also represent the program when the director is unavailable, serve as an ex officio member of the Honors Program Steering Committee, and engage in other duties as specified in the contract with the College. The role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in advising with highly-motivated students from our campus. The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated interest in intellectually vibrant learning experiences inside and outside the classroom; a commitment to inclusivity in practice; a history of working collaboratively with faculty and staff from across the College; excellent advising skills; and enthusiasm for the Honors Program. Preference will be given to members of the Honors faculty, but this opportunity is not limited to Honors faculty. During the tenure of this Assistant Director, the School of Humanities and Sciences will also be developing a signature liberal arts program (or programs) that will build on some of the innovative practices of the current Honors Program. While the Assistant Director of the IC Honors Program will have no direct responsibility for the program that develops in the School of H&S, leadership from the two programs may choose to liaise as the H&S program develops. The Assistant Director will receive four credits of reassigned time from teaching [or overload compensation] in Spring 2020 and, beginning in Fall 2020, will receive four credits of reassigned time from teaching each fall and spring semester (eight credits per year, in total) for the duration of the appointment. There are no summer responsibilities associated with the role. Interested individuals should send a letter of interest and current CV to the Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Jeane Copenhaver-Johnson, at jcopenhaverjohnson@ithaca.edu. Interested candidates will meet with the Honors Director, representatives of the Honors Steering Committee, and the Associate Provost for Academic Programs as part of the interview process. To ensure full consideration, materials should be submitted no later than Monday, December 2, 2019, but materials will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. |
