Patricia Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies and Codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, presented an invited lecture on her new book, Documentary Across Platforms: Reverse Engineering Media, Place, and Politics (Indiana, 2019) at The Media School at Indiana University on November 21, 2019.

The talk also featured an extended conversation about documentary, new media platforms, and postcolonial historiography with Dr. Josh Malitsky,  Director of the Center for Documentary Research and Practice at Indiana University.

Documentary Across Platforms analyzes the ever-evolving constellation of practices known as “documentary” and the way in which they investigate, engage with, and interrogate the world.  The book envisions documentary as a complex ecology composed of different technologies, sets of practices, and specific relationships to communities, engagement, politics, and social struggles through the lens of reverse engineering.
