The IC Women of Distinction Awards will be presented during a ceremony on March 26, which is part of the IC Women Leaders Series that is hosted by the Office of Student Engagement. In 2019, Dr. Danette Johnson was recognized as the first IC Woman of Distinction for her outstanding achievement in her field and commitment to the local community. As a result of the positive feedback from the participants at that event, this will now be an annual award, and the nomination process and ceremony will be open to a wider audience.

Any person with an @ithaca.edu email address can nominate an individual for the Women of Distinction Awards. Awards are presented to women who represent diverse identities, ages, occupations, and passions. The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2020 Women of Distinction Awards is Friday, February 7. The criteria for the award are as follows:

  • Current Ithaca College faculty or staff members who identify as women.
  • Exhibit leadership and pave the way for women in their fields of expertise.
  • Serve as role models and/or mentors to women and girls.
  • Advocate positive social change that helps close the gender leadership gap and creates a more equitable society.
  • Are committed to advancing all women regardless of background and work to amplify diverse voices.
  • Give back to their field through their time, talent, and resources.

If a nominee is selected to receive the award, the selection committee will reach out to be sure that they are willing to receive the award at a ceremony in March 2020. We will notify all nominators of the award recipients and nominators will be invited to attend the award ceremony, too.
