Focus groups re: support for faculty scholarship, research, and creative inquiryContributed by Jennifer Jolly on 02/05/20 Members of the Research Support Action Group, working under the "Employer of Choice" goal of the Ithaca Forever strategic plan, will be holding focus groups in February. Our action group’s objective is to "Increase support for faculty research, collaboration, and innovation." In terms of "research," we are including scholarship, research, and creative inquiry (SRCI). To help us better understand faculty needs, we will be conducting focus groups to gather faculty input. We have identified six such groups, roughly categorized by research and creative practices and disciplines. Each should last approximately one hour: Business Creative Arts (Music, Theatre, Art, Writing, Film, Photo) Clinical Research (HSHP, any others) Park (Communications) STEM Humanities/Social Sciences (from any school) We invite you to sign up for one of these focus groups. Faculty are welcome to attend whichever of these sessions appears most relevant to them (or fits with their schedule). Some of the questions we will be asking at those groups are: To what extent is your research/creative inquiry supported (grants, CFRDs, mentoring, CFE workshops, etc.)? What could IC be doing to better support your research/creative inquiry? What forms of creative or scholarly collaboration are you currently engaging, and what is needed to help facilitate further collaboration? These focus groups will be open ended and informal. All responses will be recorded anonymously, so we encourage you to be as straightforward as possible. We will assemble responses as part of our action plan to present to Senior Leadership in an effort to increase support for scholarship, research, and creative inquiry as much as possible. To sign up for a session, please follow this link to a google form. We look forward to hearing from you, Jennifer Jolly (co-chair) Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Patrick Luker at pluker@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1206. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
