The Ithaca College Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost, hosted its fourth annual scholar-athlete luncheon this afternoon, February 6, at Emerson Suites to celebrate the exceptional academic achievements for current junior and senior student-athletes.

More than 60 student-athletes from 23 of Ithaca's 27 sponsored varsity programs received invitations to the ceremony. Each student-athlete has obtained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 or higher since their arrivals to South Hill three or four years ago. Deans and faculty advisors of the student-athletes, as well as President Shirley M. Collado, also attended the luncheon on Thursday

Associate Director of Athletics, Will Rothermel, and Associate Chair of Physical Therapy and Faculty Athletic Representative, Barb Belyea, spearheaded the initiative to honor the student-athletes' performances in the classroom.

"This event has become one of my favorite Ithaca Athletics traditions and a terrific opportunity to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments of our student-athletes, said Rothermel. This group of scholar-athletes embodies what it means to be a Bomber and they are an outstanding representation of Ithaca College."

"It's truly inspiring to recognize this group of student-athletes who excel in the classroom as well as in athletics, stated Belyea. Achieving this level of academic achievement speaks to the student-athletes' passion and perseverance and we are so proud of their accomplishments."

Senior Peyton Greco of Ithaca’s women’s golf program served as the keynote speaker on Thursday afternoon. She has been a model student-athlete during her time on South Hill, garnering an impressive list of individual honors both in the classroom and on the course. Greco has accumulated year-end awards twice over her first three seasons, taking home 2017 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors during her first collegiate season as well as earning Liberty League Women’s Golfer of the Year honor as a junior in 2019. She currently ranks fourth on the program’s all-time list in career scoring average per 18-holes. Greco has been a Liberty League All-Academic selection throughout her career, while she also serves as the co-president the athletic department’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
