Phew! You made it through the first week of remote instruction! As you may have heard, the Recreational Sports team has fitness and intramural programs ready to get started this week. Please take a few minutes to review the options below and sign-up for any programs that strike your interest. For updates on additional programs and virtual events please follow us @ICFitnessCenter and @ICIntramurals.

 Virtual Group Fitness

Our group fitness team has pulled together to offer 11 classes per week. All classes will be offered live through Zoom. Registration will open 48 hours prior to the scheduled class start time and will close 30 minutes beforehand to allow our staff time to send the Zoom meeting invitations. Please visit recreation.ithaca.edu to register. Our weekly class schedule is available on our website, shout out and thank you to Physical Therapy faculty member Dr. Mike Costello for leading a Tai Chi class!

All classes will be recorded, and links to the recordings will be posted to the Recreational Sports website.

Home Exercise Programming (Featuring the Fitness Center Personal Training Team)

Our training staff has put together four home fitness “tracks” that can be adapted for participants at any fitness level. We invite you sign up at the links below. This is a great option for those looking for a personal training feel. Please sign-up here. Once you’ve signed up you will be added to the Facebook group for your track and will have access to video tutorials and weekly live Q&A sessions with our trainers. Please see below for our track descriptions:

Bodybuilding:

This group is for people who want to add muscle mass and pump up their heart rate in a fun and home-friendly environment. We will use bodyweight and household objects to target different muscle groups. This group is open to all fitness levels, including experienced bodybuilders and newbies who want to build some muscle!

Strength Training:

This group will provide exercise programming for those that are looking to develop muscular strength. Strength training is a form of resistance training that will stimulate the muscular and nervous systems to adapt to be able to move heavier loads. Since most of us do not have any external resistance to work with right now other than maybe some textbooks, we will be doing more volume than typical in a strength program. This is to provide the systems enough stimulus to continue to grow and progress.

Core and Cardio:

The Cardio and Core program is intended to get your heart pumping and improve endurance. If you are an avid runner or enjoy performing exercises for a long duration with a moderate intensity; then this program is for you! Included in this program are moderate intensity days, with a focus more on circuits, and low intensity days with a focus more on endurance. Both days include a core finisher to assist you in strengthening and conditioning your core!

Functional Fitness:

This group will be delivering home based programming that will incorporate aspects of strength training, cardio, and interval training. The programming will be modifiable to equipment available, home environments, and all fitness levels. 

 

Intramurals 

We will be hosting weekly Esports tournaments featuring a different sport each Saturday night beginning April 4th. The first tournament will be NBA 2K20 and 2K19 for Xbox and PlayStation, register here by Saturday April 4th at 2pm. Divisions are capped at 16 teams per league and tournaments will begin at 7:00pm.

Our Instagram Wellness Challenge is underway! Follow us @ICIntramurals to see the daily challenges. Complete 15 challenges between now and May 11th to receive an Intramural Champion t-shirt! To get credit for completing a challenge just tag the ICIntramurals Instagram in your own Instagram post of you completing the challenge.
