Changes to Paid Time Away for Benefits Eligible StaffContributed by Cheryl Thomason on 04/06/20 As you are aware, beginning June 1, 2020, the College’s Paid Time Away (PTA) program was scheduled to change to allow for vacation and sick time to be accrued on a per-pay-period basis with personal leave continuing to be frontloaded. However in response to the COVID-19 health crisis, we are modifying the June 1 scheduled change to our PTA practices for personal and medical leave for this year only. Effective May 1, 2020, eligible staff will be frontloaded 3.5 days of personal leave and 14 days of medical leave (The number of hours in a day will be prorated for employees working less than full-time.). The changes that were planned to begin June 1 for vacation leave will still go into effect. One of the most frequently asked questions about the upcoming changes relates to how much vacation time a staff member must use before June 1 in order to receive their full per pay period accrual amount on June 1. Please see the Paid Time Away FAQ document for the answer to this question as well as others that explain calculating how much PTA you are entitled to in a year, the maximum amount of vacation and personal leave you can have at any one time, and how to calculate the amount of vacation leave you will accrue on a per pay period basis beginning June 1.
