Webinar: Helping People with Dementia Stay Connected During the PandemicContributed by Gretchen Van Valen on 04/09/20 Join us for IC’s free webinar on Friday, April 10 at noon (EDT.) Many people coping with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia live in nursing homes or assisted living communities. When COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, residential homes that provide care for people with dementia and other disabilities closed their doors to family visits, and many also canceled group activity programs and discontinued communal dining. Residents, especially those with dementia, often become lonely as they are isolated from their families who can longer visit, and may miss the companionship of other residents. This webinar will explain how Namaste Care, a small group program developed for people with advanced dementia, has now been adapted as an individual program that enables staff to bring joy and happiness to people with dementia in spite of the pandemic.
