Idrissou Mora-Kpai, Assistant Professor, Department of Media, Arts, Sciences and Studies, is among fifteen grantees for the 2020 Media Arts Assistance Fund (MAAF), a regrant partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts Electronic Media and Film Program.

The grant supports the distribution and exhibition rollout for his new feature-length documentary, America Street. The film follows Joe, the owner of a small corner store, in the heart of an old, but slowly, disappearing black community. By portraying Joe’s daily life and the very specific microcosm around him, the film also investigates the socio-economic struggles of the black community in a town whose legacy of segregation and racism has been recently exposed with the murder of Walter Scott by a white police officer and the killings at the Emanuel AME Church.
