The cinema is collaborating with independent film distributors to sell patrons “virtual tickets” for online rentals of current first-run releases that can be screened using a laptop or mobile device. The six FLEFF titles represent art cinemas from Brazil, Romania, Iceland, Georgia, Easter Island, Chile, and the US “Our partnership with Cinemapolis has insured FLEFF and Ithaca College can bring groundbreaking international art cinema to Ithaca, our region, and the world,” said Patricia Zimmermann, professor of media arts, sciences and studies and co-director of the festival. “And this vital partnership has meant continually adapting and innovating to community needs, whether embodied or now virtual, to insure space for cinemas that change how we see and think about the globe.” Films for the FLEFF Virtual Festival with Cinemapolis with links to how to view (small ticket charge) are below: BACURAU, Kleber Mendonca Filho and Juliana Dorneles, Brazil, 2019 (NOW ON SALE) THE WHISTLERS, Corneliu Porumboiu, Romania, 2019 (OPENS 4/17) AND THEN WE DANCED, Levin Akin, Georgia, 2020 (OPENS 4/17) A WHITE, WHITE DAY, Hylnur Palmason, Iceland, 2020 (OPENS 4/24) EATING UP EASTER,Sergio M. Rapu, Easter Island/US, 2018 (OPENS 4/22 for Earth Day) THE CORDILLERA OF DREAMS, Patricio Guzman, Chile, 2019 (OPENS 5/1) Begun in 1997 as an outreach project from Cornell University’s Center for the Environment, the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival was moved permanently to Ithaca College in 2005. It is housed in the Office of the Provost as a program to link interdisciplinary intellectual inquiry and debate to larger global issues. Starting on April 10, Cinemapolis, whose executive director, Brett Bossard, is a 1995 alumnus of Ithaca College, will screen several international art film titles originally slated for the 23rd Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival in a partnership to launch “Virtual FLEFF.”
