The Ithacan has once again been named the Best College Newspaper in New York State by the New York Press Association in its annual Better College Newspaper competition. In addition to the top award, the paper won First Place in six of the competition’s categories and Second Place in another. Six Ithacan staff members were also honored for their individual work.

The judges said: “Top-notch journalism, fascinating graphics, clean style and subject diversity pushed The Ithacan to the winning spot in this very competitive category. A thoughtful opinion page, complete with a local editorial cartoon, is just one of its assets. The paper does a stellar job covering its community, pursuing enterprise, holding power to account and serving its readers and advertisers.”

The awards were for work produced during calendar year 2019 (Grace Elletson ’19, spring semester editor-in-chief; Sophia Adamucci ’20, fall semester editor-in-chief). The awards were announced by email after NYPA’s annual convention was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
