The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) exhibitions and contributions to new media art have been recognized by a special recently launched initiative by the Centre for Screen Cultures at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland called "Media Playlists."

Dr. Dale Hudson of New York University Abu Dhabi and FLEFF digital curator and Dr. Patricia R. Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies and Codirector of FLEFF, were invited by the Centre to curate a playlist from the last four years of new media art exhibitions from the festival.

Their playlist is entitled "Digital and Interactive Media Projects that Think Through The Environment."  It features online projects featured in FLEFF new media art exhibitions from Ecuador, Denmark, Israel, Norway, Belgium, Uruguay, Canada, the Philippines, and the US.  All works are accessible here.

The Centre's project addressed the international need for innovative online teaching materials as college courses transitioned to remote instruction as a result of the global pandemic. They invited scholars and programmers from around the globe to develop innovative, cutting edge, and field defining playlists that could be used for college-level teaching and virtual programming.

Hudson and Zimmermann's playlist is the only playlist in this large project to focus exclusively on new media art delivered via platforms, algorithms, web, and code and accessible for free.

The four FLEFF international new media art exhibitions fromwer 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 were supported through grants from the Park Foundation
