Congrats to Politics major Kalena Yearwood ’23 for being selected to IC Board of Trustees, as student trustee. Kalena will serve for the next two years as the student trustee. She is currently the civic engagement and outreach liaison for IC Ujima Black Student Union, helping to establish connections between Ithaca College students and the greater Ithaca community. Hannah Gignoux ’18 has been awarded a Fulbright to United Kingdom, 2020-2021 (‘Specialist’ M.A. in International Politics). Here is a bit of what Hannah says about the project: The project has been born out of an undergraduate thesis project from my senior year which I titled "Theories of Reading". The thesis was attempting to grapple with a problem I saw in both academic and personal discourse in my life. Many times, people would think that they were engaging with other thoughts or ideas, but really they were just projecting themselves onto the text or the other. I want to ask the questions "How can I develop a good critique of capitalism or of market society that adequately grapples with structural analysis but also leaves room for individual experience? If we take the impossibility of communication as our first premise, might I develop a better understanding of ourselves, our communities, and the larger global structures around us?’
Congrats Hannah!
