Ithaca College

Patricia Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies and Co-director of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, has published a dossier entitled “Co-creation in Documentary: Toward Multiscalar Granular Interventions Beyond Extraction” in Afterimage: Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism. 

The University of California Press, which now publishes Afterimage, has opened the entire dossier up for free access until December 31, 2020.

The dossier includes essays by scholars and new media artists Reece Auguiste (UK/US), Brenda Longfellow (Canada), Dorit Naaman (Israel/Canada), Helen De Michiel (US), and Zimmermann.  

Zimmermann’s essay is “Polyphony and the Emerging Collaborative Ecologies of Documentary Media Exhibition,” which analyzes the new media/emerging media installations of visual artist John Akomfrah and sound artist Janet Cardiff. The dossier also features a closing piece entitled “Fifty Speculations and Fifteen Unresolved Questions on Co-creation in Documentary, “ a collaborative project of all the dossier authors.
