The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival is partnering with Cinemapolis to offer a week of FREE virtual screenings of America Street, a new documentary film by Idrissou Mora-Kpai, Assistant Professor, Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies at Ithaca College.

In solidarity with the latest movement of social protest for racial justice and #BlackLivesMatter, the director is providing free access to the film, shot five years ago in Charleston in the wake of the Walter Scott killing.

America Street is a 2019 release and was scheduled for its upstate New York premiere at the 23rd Annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival

The film focuses on Charleston, South Carolina. On America Street in Charleston’s East Side neighborhood, Joe is the owner of a small corner store, the heart of an old but slowly disappearing black community. 

Idrissou Mora-Kpai

Mr. Mora-Kpai is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies at Ithaca College and an award -winning filmmaker whose films have screened world-wide at numerous prestigious festivals, such as Berlin, Rotterdam, Vienna, Milano, Busan, Sheffield, and garnered many international accolades.

Born in Benin, West Africa, Mora-Kpai is internationally renowned for his social documentaries tackling post-colonial African societies, African migrations, and diasporas.

This is an incredible and engaging film,
especially with all that's happening right
now in this country.
I was immediately drawn into the story and
the message, it\'s extremely well produced,
and I recommend taking the time to watch
it, it\'s worth it . . .
