Career Services invites 2020 grads of all career interest areas to participate in a 4-week job search coaching group beginning on June 23, 2020 (1-2PM).  The intent of the group is to share strategies and resources for navigating a typical job market as well as the current COVID-19 environment.  It will be discussion oriented and participants will emerge better prepared to define their career goals, develop strategies for attaining them, and learn how to tell their authentic story through resumes, cover letters, networking, and interviews.  If interested, e-mail John Fracchia.

Group sessions will be as follows:

Session 1:  Job Search – Pt. 1 (Focus on posted opportunities) – June 23

  • Defining your goal
  • Research resources (Occupational Outlook Handbook, Glassdoor, O-Net)
  • Tools for finding opportunity (Handshake, Indeed, CareerShift)

Session 2:  Job Search – Pt. 2 (Focus on networking) – June 30

  • Defining networking and the hallmarks of good networking
  • Managing introversion
  • Understanding and learning to tell your authentic story
  • Tools for networking (LinkedIn Alumni, Professional Associations, Peers, Own Network)

Session 3:  Resume & Cover Letter Tune-Up – July 7

  • The power of storytelling and how your resume and cover letters can tell yours
  • Elements of an effective resume & benchmarking yours
  • Strategies for writing an effective cover letter

Session 4:  Telling Your Story Through Interviewing – July 14

  • Understanding your authentic journey
  • Weaving your story into your interview answers
  • Managing the tricky questions (Tell me about yourself?  Strengths/Weaknesses? Behavioral questions)
