Randi Millman-Brown retiring as the Visual Resources Curator, Department of Art History, on June 30, 2020.Contributed by Jennifer Germann on 06/27/20 After 27 years of creative and dedicated service, Randi Millman-Brown will be retiring as the Visual Resources Curator in the Department of Art History at Ithaca College on June 30, 2020. Randi has been an integral member of the department since 1993 and is the parent of two IC alumni, Mathea Millman (Class of 2013) and Gabriel Millman (Class of 2015). Her many contributions over the years have included supporting department faculty in their teaching and the Handwerker Gallery with documentation of its permanent collection, and mentoring countless students who have worked with her as assistants in the Visual Resources Collection. The alumni list on the VRC Alumni webpage, offers a glimpse at the wide-ranging training students gained through work in the VRC - from slide preparation to digital image database management and museum registrarial practice. With Randi’s support and guidance many of these students have pursued careers that grew directly out of their VRC experiences. Randi’s contributions to the life of the department and college will also be missed. She has served on Staff Council, exhibited her photography on campus, maintained the department’s digital information display, and produced “slide pins” that visitors to Gannett routinely collect. Randi supported the department through multiple technological transitions over the years, most momentously through the transition from analog slides to digital images, and has graciously provided technical support to students and faculty seeking to optimize their presentation of visual media. A good example of the wide range of her activity can be seen in this presentation, “What do we do with all these slides? Using Slides for Creative Projects and Creating a Multi-use Visual Resources Center,” for the 2015 VRA Conference. Randi has been a wonderful colleague and cherished friend over the years and we will miss seeing her on a daily basis. This summer she was awarded a three-week artist residency at the Atelier Austmarka in Norway to pursue her writing about her great-uncle, Thor Einar Jensen, whose 1941 death under suspicious circumstances in occupied Norway she has been researching; we very much hope that she will soon be able to take advantage of this opportunity. Please join us in thanking Randi for her invaluable contributions to the college, and in wishing her all the best as she pursues her projects in photography and writing.
