The Fantasyland Project, a collaborative dance film between the NYC-based nonprofit Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company and fourteen IC students, premieres Friday, July 31, 7pm EST on Zoom. The project investigates the notion of fantasy through a range of lenses. Enjoy the 50-second Trailer!

This project has been one of making lemonade out of lemons. With the cancellation of the Company’s spring/summer performing season, DGDC transformed the initial themes into the genre of dance film. In addition to eight Company dancers in New York, the cast is complemented by eight paid summer apprentices, all Ithaca College current students or recent graduates from the Department of Theatre Arts.

Each dancer has been charged with responding to a series of written prompts to spark the conceptual kernel that interests them most. We distilled these intellectual ideas and ground them in a concrete scenario. The process of creating a unique fantasy has necessitated finding a location, and collaborating with the choreographer, costumer, and composer. The project reflects this moment in time as a springboard from which to explore the mundane, comedic, dramatic, and the horrific.

One night only, The Fantasyland Project will occur via a live screening and talkback with the artists on Zoom, Friday, July 31 at 7:00pm EST.  A free event, reservations are necessary. Tickets can be obtained through this Eventbrite site.
