President Shirley M. Collado has announced that Guilherme Costa, who has served for the past two years as vice president, general counsel, and secretary to the Ithaca College Board of Trustees, has accepted a new career opportunity in the Syracuse University Office of the Board of Trustees. His last day at IC will be September 4.

Reporting directly to President Collado, Costa has been responsible for overseeing Ithaca College’s legal affairs division, providing support, advice and assistance to the president, board of trustees, senior leaders, faculty, and staff on a wide range of legal, regulatory, compliance, insurance, and risk management matters to advance the overall priorities of the college.

During his time at the college, Costa has helped build a structural foundation for the division to operate collaboratively, efficiently, and effectively in supporting the work of his colleagues and the trustees.

“Guilherme has been a valued member of my senior leadership team, giving wise counsel not just from a legal standpoint, but also from a moral and ethical perspective,” said Collado. “Both the board and I will miss his expertise as well as the deeply caring personal and professional approach he brought to our work together. We know this is an exciting opportunity for him, and we wish him well in his new position at Syracuse.”

Nancy Pringle, who retired in 2019 as executive vice president and senior advisor to the president, has agreed to step in on an interim basis. Pringle had preceded Costa as senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary to the Ithaca College Board of Trustees.

“I am so grateful to Nancy for helping to ensure continuity in this role, especially during such a critical time at the college,” said Collado. “She brings 25 years of experience and has a tremendous knowledge of institutional history along with numerous campus connections, which will greatly benefit the work of our legal affairs team and our board as we develop plans to fill these roles.”
