Drop-In Spaces at CAPS

Contributed by Brittany McCown on 09/21/20

This fall, CAPS is offering a variety of virtual drop-in group spaces to help students find ways to reduce anxiety, improve communication, find connection and community, and get support related to current events. Drop-in means that no appointment is required and you don’t have to be a CAPS client!

CAPS Belonging (While Apart) Group will once again be offered online this fall, to create a safe and fun space for processing thoughts, feelings, and experiences for BIPOC Students:

Belonging (While Apart): Process Group for BIPOC students (Tuesdays 12-1 PM)

  • We’re not together on campus right now, but that makes connecting even more important!  Belonging:  A process group for BIPOC students, aims to be a supportive virtual space for students of color to connect and find ways to stay emotionally healthy through these trying times.
  • Those who are interested in participating need to email Stephanie Nevels directly at snevels@ithaca.edu

We are also offering two drop-in Skills Groups:

Building Your Anxiety Toolbox (Tuesdays 3-4 PM; Thursdays 4-5 PM)

  • Learn new skills and strategies for healthy coping and reducing distress or overwhelm.
  • Those who are interested in participating can click on the links on the group's description page to access the Zoom link (please note, you will need to log in with your NetPass information to obtain this link)

Communication Toolbox (Thursdays 1-2 PM)

  • Current events are presenting us all with communication challenges! From managing relationships during a pandemic, to discussing social justice issues or working with remote learning, tried-and-true skills can help us feel more confident. Learn skills for communicating effectively, building healthy relationships, expressing yourself, and finding your voice.
  • Those who are interested in participating need to email Amy Whitney directly at awhitney@ithaca.edu

We are also offering a NEW drop-in support group called, "Coping with Current Events"!

Coping with Current Events (Wednesdays 3-4 PM)

  • 2020 has been (and will continue to be) a whirlwind year.  From a global pandemic to the movement for racial justice, from climate change to electoral politics, students are feeling a lot.  Join us over Zoom in a safe and welcoming space to talk about how current events are impacting you, to give and receive support, and to share coping strategies and resources.
  • Those who are interested in participating can click on the link in the group's description page to access the Zoom link (please note, you will need to log in with your NetPass information to obtain this link)

Please visit our website for more information about the wide variety of groups offered at CAPS.
