CONVERSATIONS on COVID-19 Launches September 30 by School of Health Sciences and Human PerformanceContributed by Stewart Auyash on 09/29/20 Spanning the fall semester and programmed every few weeks, Conversations on COVID is a one-hour event. It features a 30-minute interview with our featured guest followed by Q & A with our audience. The COVID pandemic exposes in full view enormous health disparities and inequalities during a time of global protests for racial justice. It has also provoked questions about the preparedness of our public health and medical care systems The first Conversation on COVID will take place on Wednesday, September 30 at 1pm with Dean Linda Petrosino as our inaugural guest. Dr. Petrosino is the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance and Professor in Speech-Language Pathology at Ithaca College. Previously, while at Bowling Green State University, she served as Dean of the College of Health and Human Services and was founding co-chair of The Center of Health and Wellness Across the Lifespan. She holds a BS and MS degree in speech-language pathology from Ithaca College and Ph.D. from Ohio University. Dr. Petrosino has over thirty years of leadership service in professional organizations. She was named an Exemplar of Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics by the State of Ohio, and earned the distinction of Fellow in several organizations. She is the Past President of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions. The pandemic constitutes a historic moment for students enrolled in health degrees. They can study the current disruptions and begin to rethink how to challenge the health status quo in order to produce more equality in the health system and to reduce systematic racism in health institutions and practices. The School of Health Sciences and Human Performance is pleased to offer an opportunity to hear from Ithaca College faculty, staff, and alumni who will share their insights and experiences on the pandemic. Conversations on COVID is sponsored by the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance open to all Ithaca College faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
