The Society of Professional Journalists invites you to a virtual internship panel on Tuesday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. This panel will feature two Ithaca College alums and two current journalism students who worked this past summer on various projects with their respective news outlets or stations. They will discuss how they have navigated their jobs during the pandemic and tips to find the right internship or job for you! Join us on Zoom.

Amanda Chin ’19 is currently an MMJ/Reporter for the NBC/CBS/CW affiliates in Syracuse, NY at CNY Central. She’s reported on everything from crime to politics, and for the past few months, focusing on how Coronavirus is impacting and affecting the lives of the Central New York community. Amanda graduated from of the Park School in May 2019, where she earned her degree in Journalism and minored in Italian. During her time at IC, you could see her on the college’s television station, ICTV, reporting on anything from local elections to food security. Throughout her four years, she has reported, anchored, hosted and produced a variety of different news shows for ICTV. She’s beyond thankful and grateful for everything IC’s given to her during her four years!  

Kyle Stewart ’18 works in the NBC News Washington, D.C. bureau, where he field-produces coverage for Nightly News, the Today Show and MSNBC. He moved into this role after a year as the NBC News Tim Russert Fellow. Kyle covered Congress during the impeachment of President Trump and has spent time on the 2020 presidential campaign trail. 

Madison Fernandez ’21 is currently the editor in chief of The Ithacan, Ithaca College's award winning, student-run paper. She is also a member of the Emma Bowen Foundation, an organization for students of color pursuing jobs in the media industry. She previously worked as an editorial intern at Forbes Media on the College Rankings Team. Additionally, Madison has interned at 1010 WINS in New York City, CBS News in London and WRFI Community Radio and the Ithaca Voice in Ithaca, New York. Beyond internships, she reported a longform piece on cybersecurity at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in 2019 and participated in the Politico Journalism Bootcamp in 2020.

Malick Mercier ‘22 is a Journalism and Sociology double major at Ithaca College and a next-gen storyteller. Malick’s recognition grew after he hosted Instagram's official news coverage of March for Our Lives in Washington D.C., with an audience of over 230 million. Ever since then, he’s been non-stop, with reporting and appearances everywhere from CNN, Teen Vogue/Toms, JetBlue, Mic, and everything in between. Malick is also the youngest person to ever report for ABC’s digital brand, Localish. He currently hosts WGBH’s (PBS Boston) ‘Internet Expert’ — a digital-first game show dedicated to help Gen Z vote in the 2020 presidential election and to helping Malick's generation gain a greater understanding of democracy.
