The Distinguished Visiting Writers Series, supported by The Department of Writing and the School of Humanities and Sciences, kicks off its Fall 2020 season with a virtual reading and Q&A by novelist Nicole Dennis-Benn on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6:00 p.m.

Nicole Dennis-Benn was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and is the author of Here Comes the Sun (Norton/Liveright, 2016), a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and a 2017 Lambda Literary Award winner. Her bestselling novel Patsy (Norton/Liveright, 2019) is a 2020 Lambda Literary Award winner, a New York Times Editors' Choice, a Stonewall Book Awards Honor Book, and a Today Show Read With Jenna Book Club selection. Patsy has been named Best Book of the Year by Kirkus Reviews, Time, NPR, People Magazine, Washington Post, Apple Books, Oprah Magazine, The Guardian, Goodhousekeeping, BuzzFeed, ELLE, among others. "Patsy fills a literary void with compassion, complexity and tenderness," raves Time; and NPR names Dennis-Benn "an indispensable novelist." 

Nicole Dennis-Benn has also receive much attention for her nonfiction, including "Who's Allowed to Hold Hands," "A Woman-Child in Jamaica," and "I Wanted to Be a Mom. I Didn't Want to Be Pregnant" (all in The New York Times)
