We are excited to announce that the Learning Management System (LMS) Advisory Team has come up with a communication and engagement strategy and have finalized the action groups. This team will be working on finding a replacement for our current Sakai LMS. Next week, the advisory team will reach out to you to gather feedback on the challenges you find in working with Sakai. In addition, the team would like to know what you desire in a new learning management system (e.g. features, abilities, etc.). Be on the lookout in your email for invitations to join. We want your feedback. Next week action groups will have their kickoff meetings and will discuss metrics and criteria that will be used to assess our new LMS. Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to engage with us via Intercom messages. Next week we will be launching a new website, where you will find engagement opportunities and be able to provide your direct feedback to us. Your LMS Advisory Team

It is not at all clear to me why this initiative is being pursued right now. For one thing, I thought we were in a budget crisis--LMS\'s cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. For another, asking faculty to switch to a new LMS after all of the adjusting to Sakai and other on-line tools seems like a huge undertaking in both time and energy. I realize that Sakai is fading in the market and has its shortcomings. But why not wait another year or two?
