TONIGHT: Cathy Lee Crane and Daniel Masciari '15 discuss their filmContributed by Mickie Quinn on 10/11/20 The Pendleton Series presents: Monday, October 12th Screen the film for free October 9 - 15 via Cornell Cinema The Pendleton Series presents a Talk with Associate Professor Cathy Lee Crane (director) and Park alum Daniel Masciari '15 (editor) will talk about their film "Crossing Columbus" on Monday, October 12th at 7pm via Zoom with the Ithaca College Community. Everyone is encouraged to watch "Crossing Columbus" for free via Cornell Cinema from October 9 - 15th as a part of the Cine con Cultura Latinx American Film Festival. “In today’s climate, crossing the border between the US and Mexico in a ceremony of bi-national reconciliation is as exceptional as it is inevitable. My visual perspective fashioned over 25 years of hybrid filmmaking combines pristine archival material of the raid and the US military expedition which followed it with a camera that observes its present-day interlocutors from an intimate distance” shares Crane. “History haunts the border town of Columbus, N.M. when Mexican riders on horseback cross the line to commemorate Pancho Villa’s 1916 raid. As border dwellers and their divergent accounts of the Villa raid are introduced, the more subtle work a borderline does in shaping their lives comes into focus.” (Ashland Independent Film Festival) Crane will also be appearing in a Q&A Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30pm through Cornell Cinema. This project was funded in part by the James D. Pendleton Grant. The Park School will be celebrating the 25th year of this generous endowment with a series of events, screenings, talks, and awards. |
