Patricia Zimmermann, Professor of Screen Studies and Co-director of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) delivered an invited lecture and presentation on co-creation documentary, COVID small media, and FLEFF at the University of California-Berkeley on November 5, 2020.

Zimmermann presented with Helen De Michiel, her co-author, on their recent book, Open Space New Media Documentary: A Toolkit for Theory and Practice. They discussed how a variety of international new media projects reject single-authorship and instead design for collaboration across platforms in place-based strategies to deal with contested issues.

Zimmermann also analyzed the range of co-creation small media emerging across the globe during the COVID-19 pandemic. These works were programmed for a joint curatorial project between FLEFF, the Taiwan Film Institute, and the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.
