The third F2F salon features an interview with Professor Paloma Barhaugh-Bordas, Assistant Professor of Ar.  Dr. Jennifer Jolly, Professor of Art History, conducts the interview.

Professor Paloma Barhaugh-Bordas is Assistant Professor of Art at Ithaca College. Originally from Denver, Colorado, she received a BA in liberal arts from Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and an MFA in Printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. Paloma’s work adapts and appropriates the vernacular of the many regions she’s called home and traces the self-conscious search for cultural roots as a first-generation American.

Dr. Jennifer Jolly, Professor of Art History, teaches courses on Latin American Art, ancient through contemporary, at Ithaca College. She researches the art and politics of 1930s Mexico, and has published on David Alfaro Siqueiros (See-Kay-Ros) and Jose Renau. In 2015, she curated an exhibit on collecting and exhibiting Pre-Columbian Art in the mid-20th century. 

The recipient of multiple Fulbright-García Robles Fellowships, she completed her prize-winning book, Creating Pátzcuaro, Creating Mexico: Art, Tourism, and Nation Building under Lázaro Cárdenas (University of Texas Press, 2018), with the support of a National Endowment for the Humanities research grant. Her newest research examines Afro-Mexican visibility in 19th-century visual culture.

Employing the master class model, these engaging participatory salons feature senior faculty members interviewing early and mid-career WGST-affiliated faculty members about their research and their journeys to becoming scholars. Each semester will feature four salons with different faculty interviewers and interviewees.

The purpose of the salons is to showcase our feminist, anti-racist, decolonialist faculty on the Ithaca College campus, with a focus on their scholarship. We are inviting students to enter into the discipline of Women's and Gender Studies by listening to the faculty discussing their work and current debates and controversies in their disciplines.

The 75-minute salons will employ a master class model of guided conversation and then engagement with questions from attendees. They will wrap up with takeaways from participants both live and in the chat.

During the pandemic, “F2F” has emerged as an acronym for face-to-face or embodied instruction or meetings. Our salons will expand “F2F” to unfold other meanings and possibilities, such as Feminist to Feminist, Field to Field, Festival to Festival, Friend to Friend.
