On Friday, November 20th, On the Verge will present a Zoom performance of Euripides' rich and troubling tragedy, MEDEA.Contributed by Claire Gleitman on 11/15/20 On Friday, November 20th at 7 p.m., the On the Verge play-reading series presents a Zoom performance, in real time, of Euripides' Medea, featuring a cast of current Ithaca College students, Theatre department alumni, and faculty. The reading developed from an Ithaca College class called Dangerous Women in Dramatic Literature, taught by Claire Gleitman. The play focuses on a woman who decides to strike back, in a terrible fashion, against the oppression she and other women suffer in ancient Greek society. Through a dire action, she aims to teach Greek males a lesson about women's vital importance for the survival of any social system. The reading is being directed by Claire Gleitman (faculty, department of English) in collaboration with designer Chrissy Guest (faculty, department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies) and movement director Jordy Diaz (alumnus, Theatre Arts). The cast includes current IC students (Lydia Kelly, Will DeVary, Emma Taylor, Lexi Leitner), IC alumni (Jesse Bush, Trish Urso, Cameron Mitchell, Audrey Lang), faculty members (Chris Holmes, English; Greg Bostwick, Theatre Arts), and members of the Ithaca community (Andrew and Kate Breen), and it is being stage managed by Christina Johns (student, Theatre Arts). The performance should last roughly 90 minutes, including a talk-back. The Zoom link for registering and attending is below: https://ithaca.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_FBnwD97fToyuKPXqgMOm7g |
