As we prepare to welcome our students back to campus for the spring semester, we know that many departments are beginning the student hiring process in anticipation of the semester ahead. It is a good idea to get started as soon as departments have confirmed their student employee needs and available budget. As we prepare to welcome our students back to campus for the spring semester, we know that many departments are beginning the student hiring process in anticipation of the semester ahead. It is a good idea to get started as soon as departments have confirmed their student employee needs and available budget. This will ensure timely processing of the hire transactions so that students can begin working as planned and get paid in a timely manner. For an overview of the student hiring process, please visit Student Hiring Process Overview. Students who held a position just prior to the campus closure last spring are eligible to return to those positions, and should be rehired before any new students are hired. However, we should not guarantee that particular positions will still be available given changes in business need. To return a student to a prior position, please complete the Student Assignment Cognito Form to reactivate their assignment(s). Those students will not need to go through the search process again, and Student Employment will process their assignment transaction. To hire a new student, please submit a recruitment requisition using the Recruiting Cloud. For information on how to submit a requisition, please visit Recruitment of Student Employees. As was our practice this fall, we are asking supervisors to utilize the first two weeks of the new semester to give first consideration to students who meet the qualifications of their positions AND who have been awarded Federal Work Study. The Office of Human Resources will verify the award prior to an offer of employment being extended. Please note that departmental funding still needs to be budgeted for student earnings (both those who qualify for Federal Work Study and those who do not) and that pay rates should be in accordance with the 2021 Student Pay Structure, keeping in mind that employment budgets have been reduced and may not be equal to prior years’ budgets. For any new Graduate Assistantships, contact Student Employment at studentemployment@ithaca.edu for further instruction. We will be holding information and system training sessions in the coming weeks. Communication will be coming shortly on signing up for those sessions. In the meantime, please contact Student Employment at studentemployment@ithaca.edu if you have questions or need assistance. Office of Student Employment |
