It is with great sadness that I share the unexpected passing of Carl Penziul over the Thanksgiving break. Carl had a decades-long history with Ithaca College.  He taught courses in the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics and occasionally taught in the Park School of Communications.  Carl also taught in the Ithaca Seminar program for several years and coordinated the Seminar Symposium.  In addition to his varied teaching, Carl was generous with service to Ithaca College, serving on committees even when his position did not require it.

Carl was a very popular teacher of statistics in the Math Department with his classes consistently running over capacity.  Comments from one of Carl’s students sum up how much he was valued: “his students appreciated him, and we are certainly better people for knowing him. Through his actions and words Carl made it clear that he wanted us all to be successful, and most importantly he showed how easy it is to simply show you care about others.”
