Apporto virtual desktop access ends at the end of Fall semesterContributed by Mark Yowan on 12/01/20 Information Technology will not renew the contract with Apporto (https://ithaca.apporto.com) for virtual desktops after this semester. Why are we doing this? Apporto use has been low and Apporto has recently changed their pricing structure. Their new pricing model would require Ithaca to purchase two and half times more seats that we currently use per day. Apporto is doing this because their cloud infrastructure is only financially viable after a certain number of desktops are sold. Additionally, Adobe has changed their licensing and we are no longer licensed to install shared device licensed products on virtual machines. Apporto desktops are virtual machines running in Azure. How will I access software I need for class? We have set up remote access for students to lab machines on campus at https://iclabs.ithaca.edu. These desktops have Adobe Creative Cloud and other software requested by faculty installed on them. Students with specific needs not met by IClabs can make a request via the Keep Learning Student Technology Request at https://ecm.ithaca.edu. The knowledge base article for IClabs can be found at https://ithaca.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/34/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=989. If you are an Apporto user please take some time between semesters to familiarize yourself with https://iclabs.ithaca.edu. We want you to start the next semester without technical issues. The IT Service Desk is available by phone at 607-274-1000, via email at servicedesk@ithaca.edu, or via live-chat. |
