ICView, the Magazine of Ithaca College, received two silvers in the CASE DII accolades competitionContributed by News on 01/22/21 ICView, the Magazine of Ithaca College, has been recognized in a regional competition of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 issues of the magazine were recognized with silver in the category for alumni/general interest magazines, and the cover story from the Fall 2019 issue, “When a Game is More Than Just a Game,” about the historic Cortaca matchup in MetLife Stadium, won silver for feature writing. The story was written by Patrick Bohn ’05 and Kerry C. Regan. The cover story for the winter 2020 issue, “Ithaca Forever: Bold Thinking for a Global Good,” provided a high-level overview of the college’s strategic plan. “We are thrilled to receive this honor for excellence in college communications,” said Robin Roger, editor of ICView. “Each issue of the magazine is the culmination of months of planning and execution, and we couldn’t do it without the collaboration of a team of distinctly skilled and dedicated professionals. We are proud and pleased that we’re able to contribute to the goals of the college and bring them to life through engaging storytelling.” Assistant Editor Patrick Bohn ’05, MS ’07, oversaw the comprehensive storytelling surrounding the Cortaca Jug throughout the year leading up to the big event, much of which is included in the cover story. Additionally, Design Director Cristina Eagan oversaw the design of both issues and art directed the cover, feature story and Cortaca Jug ad in the fall 2019 issue of the magazine; Mel Chiotti designed both issues of the magazine; Multimedia Director Adam Baker took the cover image of the Winter 2020 issue and supporting imagery for the cover feature; and Senior Editor Hope Dodge copy edited the content. The magazine — which is mailed to 71,000 alumni, donors and families of current students — also has a new website, where you can see fresh content from current issues and download back issues. “For most alumni, the magazine is their main connection to and number-one source of information and insight about the college, and a steadfast reminder of the cherished time they spent here,” said Roger, who has been editor of ICView for 10 years. “It stays on their coffee table for months, they share it with friends and family…it’s like an information care package that arrives in the homes of IC community members across the country.” Other schools recognized in the CASE accolades competition include American University, Cornell University, Princeton University, Syracuse University, Swarthmore College, Georgetown University, New York University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and the University of Baltimore-Maryland County. CASE is a global nonprofit association dedicated to educational advancement—alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and advancement services—who share the goal of championing education to transform lives and society. The largest of the eight CASE districts, District II includes colleges and universities in the Northeast region, and the accolades awards program had more than 300 competitive entries this year. More winning entries can be viewed in the Awards Gallery.
