You are invited to the Politics Symposium Reflections on Identity, Race and Colonialism, and Islam, and the Keynote Lecture by Dr. Asma Barlas, ‘The West, Islam and the Mirror of Difference.’ This celebration in honor of Asma’s retirement from Ithaca College will take place on Friday March 26th, 2021, from 3:00-7:30pm (3pm-6pm symposium; 6-7:30pm Keynote Lecture). Please find attached the flyer to the event, and feel free to share, with students and friends.

We are VERY excited to share that we can finally celebrate our colleague and friend Dr. Asma Barlas’ retirement, an event that we had to cancel last year due to the COVID outbreak. A year later, we are still in the pandemic, but we are going virtual with the event.

The symposium is not a paper-presenting conference, but rather a chance for alumni and others to share reflections about the work they did in Asma’s courses (and in some cases, continue to do elsewhere) on the topics of the symposium. At 6pm, Asma will give the Keynote Lecture. We hope you can join.

Please find the information to register below, and write to us at politics@ithaca.edu if you have questions, or need accommodations.
