Assistant Professor of English, Kasia Bartoszynska has published an online essay on the Turkish nobel prize winner Orham Pamuk titled, "Cold War World Literature: Orhan Pamuk's White Castle." The essay is included in a series of invited responses to Gloria Fisk's Orhan Pamuk and The Good of World Literature (Columbia University Press). Kasia points out the lacuna in Fisk's reading of Pamuk, a novel that helps further Fisk's point about translatability. Kasia describes how White Castle "encodes meanings for Turkish readers that non-Turkish audiences would almost certainly miss through a willful misrepresentation of specific events in contemporary Turkish history." Fisk, in her reply to Bartoszynska's essay calls her reading "elegant." The essay can be found here: https://syndicate.network/symposia/literature/orhan-pamuk-and-the-good-of-world-literature/
