Park School of Communications instructor Shola Ajayi welcomes Angela Sharp to her class and invites everyone in Park to join the presentation in her Collaborative Projects: Ithaca to Lagos class.

From the perspective of a new media artist, academic, and a transnational and transracial adoptee, she examines different forms of mediation involved in identity formation among adoptees.

In the interactive site, From the Inside Out: Navigating Transnational and Transracial Adoption, a non-linear dialog occurs around the three caretakers of the artist, Angela Sharp, who was given up for adoption at birth. The three caretakers include her North American mother, South American birth mother, and the founder of her orphanage. It was essential for her to tell her own story first before asking others of her orphanage to do the same. Fifty adoptees, including the artist, were adopted from the orphanage el Buen Pastor (the Good Shepherd) in Ecuador, South America. These adoptees were raised in the ’70s and ’80s in North America by mostly white adoptive parents.
