Caring for the Sacred Other: A Conversation on Immigration, Faith, and the BorderlandsContributed by Hierald Osorto on 04/12/21 Join the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life at Ithaca College and Houghton College for a conversation with Dr. Gregory Cuéllar, co-founder of Arte de Lágrimas: Refugee Artwork Project. Using drawings from children released from detention centers on the U.S./Mexico border, Dr. Cuéllar explores how to reclaim the sacredness of the Other in the borderlands. Tuesday, April 13, 2021 An interdisciplinary and international biblical scholar, Dr. Gregory Cuéllar is an associate professor of Old Testament at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Prior to his current appointment, he curated rare books and manuscripts and the Colonial Mexican Imprint Collection at the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives at Texas A&M University. Dr. Cuéllar is a three-time grant fellow of the Hispanic Theological Initiative and 2012-2013 Junior Scholar Grant recipient of the Southwest Commission on Religious Studies. Dr. Cuéllar has served immigrant-majority churches in Dallas and Austin, and regularly advocate for justice for migrants at the U.S./Mexico border.
