IMAGES IN CONTEXT

THIS COURSE provides a hands-on opportunity to explore how images create new meaning through their context. Using digital and analog processes, students work with sourced photo-based imagery, self-generat- ed photos, and scanning to create books and multiples, focusing on how to construct meaning through ar- rangement and intervention. Juxtaposition, overlay, repetition, off-registration, sequencing and various other visual strategies will be explored. Particular emphasis is paid to developing skills with digital software for image manipulation (Adobe Photoshop) and layout and production (Adobe InDesign).

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
–Make, manipulate, and arrange multi-layered imagery
–Use digital software for image manipulation, layout, and production
–Experiment with a range of materials and techniques to create images for art and design –Use the elements and principles of design to create effective compositions
–Make informed design choices using image-based research
–Use a wide variety of idea generation strategies
–Compose book structures and use various bindings
