Malicious Robocalls to Ithaca College Students

Ithaca College has been made aware of malicious, automated phone calls that have been received by a number of students over the past several days. The caller expresses concern about the amount of “green boxes that you have been taking,” and states that a “charge will be placed on your account” and “you will no longer be able to register for classes” unless you return the green containers, which are used by Dining Services for take-out meals.

This is false information, and the phone calls are not being made by Ithaca College.

These phone calls appear to come from an unknown number, and the caller will leave a voicemail message if the recipient does not answer their phone.

No students will be prevented from registering for classes beginning tomorrow, April 13, 2021. Likewise, no charges or holds will be placed on any student accounts at this time for failure to return the take-out dining containers.

Information Technology and the Office of Public Safety are investigating the source of these robocalls. If you receive one of these calls, or if you have any information about them, please report it to Public Safety at 607-274-3333.
